Artist Bio
Noor Ahmed, (b. 1997) explores the landscape and cultural geography between Pakistan and Los Angeles through her work. After, immigrating to Los Angeles in 2001, Noor spent much of her childhood navigating the complexities of diaspora—experiencing both cultural familiarity and anonymity, while forging a sense of home in a new place. She received her undergraduate degree from California Institute of the Arts where she studied painting, ceramics, and video.
Working in figurative painting and ceramics, Noor weaves together themes of Pakistani mysticism, feminism, religion, and ecology. Recurring figures appear in the work with multiple irises, referencing third eye spirituality and the visual histories found in South Asian tiger painting and miniature painting. Vibrant color and dense compositions are central to Noor’s work. Noor reflects maximalist aesthetics of Pakistan and its relationship to the cultural diversity that shapes Los Angeles and the western world. Through these layered visual narratives, she creates a dialogue between places, exploring the duality and the shared histories that inform contemporary identity.
